Good afternoon, families and caregivers of our rising sixth grade scholars!
I hope everyone is enjoying the summertime and keeping cool. We’re excited to welcome you to Cambridge Street in the fall!
As mentioned in earlier communications, we are eager to support your scholar and your family as you enter into this chapter of your child’s life. We know there is a lot on your mind as school draws to a close and your child prepares to enter a new school in September, and hope that our start-of-year events will help by answering your questions and beginning to familiarize families and scholars with CSUS.
Upcoming Welcome Events at CSUS
CSUS is hosting a
New Scholar Orientation on August 30 from 6-7:30PM. Scholars will be able to receive their class schedule, meet some teachers and current scholars, become familiar with Aspen and ParentSquare, and see a few classrooms and learning spaces. Any 6th grade classroom material/supply lists will also be available at New Scholar Orientation, but know that our school supply requests are generally few; the majority of scholar materials are provided.
Stay tuned for the date of our annual
Back-to-School Night and Block Party. Families will be introduced to staff and learn about our curriculum. Activities, food and games will follow. This is a family event and we hope to see you all there!
We know families have many commitments and may not attend all events. Our goal is to ensure you feel welcomed and begin the year with the information you need to feel ready and excited to begin middle school with us. New families can also reference this
list of Frequently Asked Questions and this
video of our 2022 Rising 6th grade information night for details about the transition to CSUS (some staffing has changed since the filming of this video but our information is largely the same). If you have any questions or needs please reach out to our Family and Community Liaison, Mr. Will Adams at
[email protected].
Language Choice - Action Required by August 4
As your scholar prepares for sixth grade, they have the opportunity to select a World Language to study for the remainder of middle school - your scholars’ choices are French and Spanish. Lower schools have shared the choice form already, but if you have not yet selected your scholar’s language please do so
here. Scholars joining Ms. Ives, Ms. Curran, or Mr McLelland’s classes in the fall will have the opportunity to explore both languages.
Get Involved!
Finally, we are actively recruiting for our
Parent Caregiver Organization (PCO) and
School Site Council/Equity Team. If you are engaged in the School Site Council, Equity Team, PTO and/or a Friends Of group at your current building, or if you are new to these family/school partnerships
we would love to hear from you and welcome you to our team! Involvement is self-directed and no prior experience is necessary. We value the diversity of experience, identity, and opinion that our families bring to this work. Please connect with our Family Liaison, Mr. Will Adams at
[email protected], if you are interested in being involved at CSUS or if you would like more information about any of the above groups.
The team at Cambridge Street is looking forward to getting to know everyone better and welcoming you into the CSUS community.
See you soon, and Go Cobras!
