Good morning CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

It was wonderful to see so many of you at last Thursday’s Back to School Night! Many thanks to the staff, scholars, and families that made the night a success. If you were unable to join us, please feel free to connect with any member of CSUS staff via email if you have any questions.

Hispanic Heritage Month
CSUS honors National Hispanic Heritage Month each year from September 15-October 15. We are looking forward to sharing the ways our school community celebrated Hispanic American achievements and culture in next week’s Tuesday Take Home.

Unfortunately, due to COVID related safety concerns as well as restrictions regarding potlucks, we will have to re envision this year's Hispanic Heritage Month Family Potluck. There will be no in-person potluck this Thursday. Our Student Council is compiling a cookbook celebrating foods and recipes from our Hispanic and Latinx families and community. Email us with your contributions!

Vaccines for scholars
Please see this important information regarding updated vaccine requirements for scholars 12 and older participating in after school extracurricular activities.

School Site Council
We are looking forward to launching CSUS’ School Site Council this year. According to the CPS School Council Handbook,

A School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, under both state and federal law (MGL Chapter 71, Section 59C, ESSA). The School Council improves student outcomes by engaging its community in site-based decision-making to develop a shared vision of the school. This type of collaborative decision-making also allows teachers and administrators to work with parents and the community to become more responsive to the needs of a particular school's population.

CSUS’ first School Site Council meeting for the year will be held virtually later this month. Stay tuned for additional details and a meeting link. If you are interested in joining the CSUS School Site Council please email me.

Remembering Jimmy Ravanis
For the past year, a dedicated team of KO and CSUS staff have been planning and organizing a way for our communities to memorialize and celebrate Jimmy Ravanis, a member of the facilities team at CSUS and King Open who passed away last year. Today, Wednesday October 13, a new "Buddy Bench" behind the KO/CSUS complex is being dedicated to his memory. Many thanks to those whose hard work made this possible.

I hope you had a reflective Indigenous People’s Day weekend. Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Christen
