Listening Conferences, Schedules, and More

Listening Conferences, Schedules, and More
Posted on 09/09/2020
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We hope that you and your scholars had an enjoyable long weekend, and were able to find a way to participate in some of the summertime things that bring you joy and the ability to relax and recharge.

We know that our community is anxious to know more about the approaching school year, and we are excited to share that your scholar’s Cobra Den Advisor will be in touch with you this week to schedule a Listening Conference. CSUS has hosted Listening Conferences since 2016; these meetings have always served as an opportunity for us to hear from you, who know your scholars best, about the way your child learns, your goals for your scholar and their learning, and your hopes for their future. This year Listening Conferences hold the critical importance of sharing important insights about your child’s well being after our summer apart, and what they and you need from CSUS in order to make remote learning a success. Current guidelines and mandates require these meetings to happen virtually; families will have the option of joining an online meeting through Zoom or talking on the phone at a time that is convenient for you. We also have interpreters in many languages that are ready and able to assist us. We are eager to connect with all CSUS families and caregivers before the end of September.

The start of this school year is unlike any other, and TEAM CSUS has been working hard to prepare for a remote teaching setting that supports wellness, fosters a sense of belonging, and allows for meaningful, engaging learning for all scholars. We know you and your scholars have many questions, and we are eager to answer what we can. CSUS administrators, teacher leaders, and staff will be holding virtual Zoom gatherings for families on September 14 for grade 6 and September 15 for grades 7/8 from 6:30 - 7:30PM to share information about the start of the year. We would love for you to join us if you are able, and for those who aren’t, video and slides from the evening will be shared on our website and the link will be emailed to our community afterward.

Your scholar’s schedule will be available in Aspen at 3PM tomorrow; you will receive an email with details explaining how to access your child’s schedule in Aspen at that time. Your scholar’s Cobra Den Advisor will review their schedule with them in the early days of school. If you are interested in knowing more about schedules, I hope you will join our upcoming meeting. Information will also be available afterward in the meeting materials, and shared with families via our weekly Sunday Rundown email. Please note that schedules for scholars in Ms. Rosso’s, Ms. Ives, and Ms. Flanagan’s classes will be shared at a later date; your child’s teacher will be in touch with you soon with more information.

6th grade Families, please note that on Thursday, September 24 the Band and Orchestra teachers, Ms. Chanler and Mr. Watt will hold a virtual information night from 6:30-7:30PM. If you are the parent or caregiver of a 6th grader, please complete this instrument survey before September 24th.

Thank you again for your patience, and for entrusting us with your childrens’ education. We hope to ‘see’ you virtually in the coming week!

Peace,

Manuel and Christen
