“I really like my son’s teachers!”
“I feel good about what I’m hearing this year.”
“The staff seems happy to be teaching here.“
“Back to School Night was terrific!”
“I wanted to let you know I found the back-to-school night very helpful and was impressed with all the staff. “
These
were some of the comments shared about CSUS’s 2nd annual Back to School
Night which was held on Thursday, Sept. 19th. Cambridge Street Upper
School hosted over 100 parents and caregivers, as well as deputy Supt.
Dr. Carolyn Turk and School Committee member Fred Fantini. The evening
began with a meet and greet in the main lobby where CSUS staff mingled
with families. Community partners were also on site and included the
Area IV Youth Center, Breakthrough Cambridge, The Frisoli Center,
Science Club for Girls, and Tutoring Plus.
The official program began with a musical rendition flawlessly
performed by the CSUS Flute ensemble (Emma Atlas, Gilbert Cranton, Talia
Spitz and Lixing Watermulder) conducted by Band Teacher Mr. Murray
Tripp.
Head of School Manuel J. Fernandez greeted the families and introduced Mark Cason-Snow, 7th grade parent and secretary of the Parent Caregiver Organization
(PCO). Mark asked for support for the PCO’s many initiatives to build
community and to fund student activities. 54 members of the CSUS staff
individually introduced themselves and identified the positions they
hold in the school.
The families then met in grade level groups and learned about the
expectations and programs offered at CSUS. They visited each of the core
subject classrooms for a more detailed glimpse at the grade level
curriculum.
Back to School Night was the first of many events that will bring
Cambridge Street Upper School scholars, caregivers, and staff together
this year, and a wonderful evening for our school community. Many thanks
to all who attended!
