February is here! We’re entering the month with much to celebrate - a successful Choral Concert and Art Show, upcoming Lunar New Year, and the ongoing learning, reflection, and celebration accompanying Black History Month. We are also looking forward to School Site Council/Equity Team meeting this Thursday and Scholar Led Conferences for all grades later this month.

On January 18, our CSUS scholar artists and vocal musicians shared their INCREDIBLE talents with our community. Many thanks to Ms Silbert, Ms Costantino, and our CSUS VPA team for their commitment to our scholars and their artistic development. Much appreciation to the many members of our Cambridge Street community - caregivers, scholars, and staff past and present - who showed up to support scholars and the arts!
Lunar New Year
Lunar New Year is celebrated in several Asian countries including China, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Vietnam. For countries that align the years with the Chinese zodiac, February 10 marks the beginning of the Year of the Dragon.
Black History Month
The tradition of Black History Month dates back to 1915 when Carter G. Woodson and Jesse E. Moorland organized to research and promote achievements by Black Americans and other peoples of African descent. We recommend this video resource to talk with scholars about the “need” for special months (e.g. Women’s History Month, Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, etc.) dedicated to learning about minoritized groups in the U.S. In CPS and at Cambridge Street, our aim is to explore, understand, and celebrate Black history and achievement not just in February but throughout the school year. This week our Librarian Ms Danen shared this wonderful digital library of texts by Black authors to promote independent reading - enjoy!
January Attendance Challenge
We are kicking off the new year with a review of our attendance data and a friendly competition between our grade levels and advisories to improve school and class attendance! Our goals are improved daily school attendance and improved class attendance. We are looking forward to celebrating grade level and advisory winners next week.
School Site Council and Equity Team this Thursday, February 8 at 6PM
CSUS’ School Site Council and Equity Team will meet virtually this Thursday, February 8 from 6-7PM. This meeting was rescheduled from last week, and will be an opportunity to learn more about the group, understand the election process, and collaborate/ problem-solve around building our CSUS community. CSUS Homework Expectations and Weekly HW Calendars
In an effort to keep scholars, caregivers, and out of school time providers informed regarding weekly assignments, our teaching teams are sharing weekly homework calendars. These will be posted on our website for reference and easy access.
CSUS PCO February Break Gift Card Drive
The CSUS Parent Caregiver Organization is holding a gift card drive to support families in our community over February break.
How You Can Help
- Donate funds to our Gift Card Drive and the PCO will purchase grocery gift cards to give to the CSUS Family Liaison to distribute to families directly
- Donate a $25 or $50 gift card to Market Basket, Target, Star, or other grocery store and drop it off at the CSUS main office labeled “PCO Gift Card Drive”

Scholar Led Conferences on February 27 5-6:30PM
This month, CSUS is hosting Scholar Led Conferences as a mid-year opportunity for scholars to showcase their schoolwork and discuss progress on their educational goals with you. We will share a more detailed schedule for the evening next week.
