Good afternoon CSUS families and caregivers,

Following the global events of the last several days, I am feeling both grateful for a long fall weekend with my family and deeply saddened over the violence and natural disasters that have impacted so many people and their loved ones, both here and around the world. Please know that our staff will monitor the well-being of our students and work together to support our scholars and families during this time.

CSUS Homework Expectations and Weekly HW Calendars
In an effort to keep scholars, caregivers, and out of school time providers informed regarding weekly assignments, our teaching teams are sharing weekly homework calendars. These will be posted on our website for reference and easy access.

Grade 8 Weekly Homework
Grade 7 Weekly Homework
Grade 6 Weekly Homework

After School Clubs
Our Cross Country team began last week, and Flagways had their first meeting of the year today. Mr Adams will be sending communication about additional after school club and activity offerings via ParentSquare later this month.

Join the Parent Caregiver Organization (CSUS PCO) meeting Thursday, October 19th 7PM
All parents and caregivers are warmly invited to the CSUS PCO meeting from 7-8:30PM on Thursday, October 19th.  Our focus is not just fundraising, but supporting the school any way we can.

This meeting will focus on fall fundraising activities, Thanksgiving baskets for families in need, and possible upcoming teacher appreciation initiatives – we are actively seeking the involvement of caregivers of 7th graders (we need 7th grade families involved this year so they are ready to help out next year with the 8th grade trip).  If you are able to volunteer a few hours of your time to help us, please join us for the meeting or send us an email at [email protected].

If you have any questions or are interested in volunteering, please contact the PCO leadership at [email protected].

School Site Council and Equity Team
CSUS’ first School Site Council and Equity Team meeting for the year will be held virtually this Thursday, October 12 from 6-7PM. This will be an opportunity to learn more about the group and to understand the election process. If you are interested in joining the CSUS School Site Council or Equity Team, or in learning more about these opportunities please email me at [email protected].

According to the CPS School Council Handbook,
A School Council is a representative, school building-based committee composed of the principal, parents, teachers, community members and, at the secondary level, students, under both state and federal law (MGL Chapter 71, Section 59C, ESSA). The School Council improves student outcomes by engaging its community in site-based decision-making to develop a shared vision of the school. This type of collaborative decision-making also allows teachers and administrators to work with parents and the community to become more responsive to the needs of a particular school's population.

Fall SEL Screener
Please check your email tomorrow for information regarding The Devereux Student Strengths Assessment - Middle School Edition - Student Self Report (DESSA-MSE-SSR). This survey provides us with the opportunity to hear directly from our scholars what they think their strengths are and help us identify ways that we can support their Social Emotional Learning and growth.

Reminder from our School Nurse
A reminder that all CPS scholars require an up to date physical on file with the school nurse. A Tdap and Meningococcal vaccine are also due for all 7th graders.
