Good evening CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

I hope you and your scholars are enjoying the summertime. Our final weeks of the 22-23 school year were full of celebration; it was wonderful to see scholars share their accomplishments with friends and family at our 6th grade portfolio breakfast, 7th grade portfolio potluck, and 8th grade Cobra Capstones and graduation. While they are undoubtedly having fun with family and friends, we are already eager to welcome new and returning scholars in September! I am emailing to share a few summer updates as we head into August regarding the appointment of our new Assistant Principal, important summer and back-to-school dates, and opportunities for caregivers to get involved at CSUS.

Welcome Ms. Fatima Sammy
As you know, we held interviews for Assistant Principal at the end of June. The committee interviewed a number of qualified candidates, and I am pleased to welcome Fatima Sammy as our Assistant Principal at Cambridge Street Ms. Sammy is joining CSUS from Putnam Ave. Upper School where she worked most recently as the instructional coach. She has a strong background in instruction and school leadership, and in her interview spoke passionately about creating learning spaces that focus on multiple access points for engagement and connections for all scholars

Ms Sammy shared that she is looking forward to building relationships with our dynamic community and is excited to partner with our staff and families to provide the best learning opportunities for our scholars. Outside of work, she is an enthusiastic UConn women's basketball fan and attends as many games as possible!

Scholar Schedules, Aspen, and Upcoming New Scholar Orientation
Academic schedules for the 2023-2024 school year will be available for scholars in all grades in late August via ASPEN. New to CPS caregivers will receive a login id and temporary password for their ASPEN account via postal mail and/or email later in the summer. Caregivers with older children already enrolled in CPS can use the same ASPEN account information for all of their children. If you have any questions regarding how to log in to ASPEN, please contact Will Adams at [email protected].

New Scholar Orientation will take place on August 30 at 6PM. This event is for rising 6th graders and their families, and for any new 7th and 8th graders joining CSUS for the first time this fall. New scholars and caregivers will have the opportunity to tour 840 Cambridge Street, become familiar with Aspen and ParentSquare, and meet members of the CSUS community.

Stay tuned for the date of our annual Back-to-School Night and Block Party. Families will be introduced to staff and learn about our curriculum. Activities, food and games will follow. This is a family event and we hope to see you all there!

Get Involved!
Finally, we are actively recruiting for our Parent Caregiver Organization (PCO) and School Site Council/Equity Team. If you were engaged in the School Site Council, Equity Team, PTO and/or a Friends Of group at your child’s elementary school OR if you are new to these family/school partnerships we would love to hear from you and welcome you to our team! Involvement is self-directed and no prior experience is necessary. We value the diversity of experience, identity, and opinion that our families bring to this work. Our PCO is specifically looking to engage families of rising 7th and 8th graders around fundraising for our annual 8th grade trip; in past years 8th grade scholars enjoyed an overnight trip to New York City, but to do this planning needs to begin now! Please connect with our Family Liaison, Mr. Will Adams at [email protected], if you are interested in being involved at CSUS or if you would like more information about any of the above groups.

I would like to extend my gratitude to you, the caregivers in our Cambridge Street community. I appreciate your support and partnership, and thank you for entrusting us with your child’s learning. I hope everyone is able to enjoy the summer months. Keep cool and have fun! I am looking forward to next year.

Go Cobras!
