Good afternoon CSUS parents and caregivers,
I am emailing with a few final updates and clarifications prior to our first day of school next Tuesday, September 2nd. Please see below for information about the first day of school (including transportation and required forms), school policy reminders, scholar computers, a course offering clarification, and links to communication from your scholar’s grade level teaching team.
ParentSquare communication with whole-school information and updates on Tuesdays. Your child’s classroom teachers may reach out additionally as needed (and we of course welcome your communication all days of the week).

First Day of School and Start of School
A reminder that our start time is 8:45AM. Doors open at 8:30AM; at this time, scholars may transition to classes.
On our first day, scholars will report to advisory. We will have teachers ready to greet and assist scholars in finding their way. After the first day, scholars will report directly to their first period class at the start of the day.
Grade 6-8 scholars are welcome to join us for breakfast beginning at 7:45AM in the cafeteria; please note that once scholars arrive at CSUS they are not permitted to leave the building (to go to the store, hang out outside, etc.) until dismissal at the end of the day.
Scholar Schedules
- Scholar schedules are now available to view online via ASPEN. Scholars can login with their CPS Google credentials.
- Schedules may change prior to September 2. Lots of things impact class scheduling! CSUS is a small community and classes are not cohorted, giving scholars many opportunities to see old friends and make new social connections across the school day.
- Grade 6 and 7 scholars have Cobra Connections & WIN in their schedule this year.
- Cobra Connections is a class dedicated to building social skills supporting social emotional learning.
- WIN is “What I Need,” an opportunity for scholars to be grouped flexibly for support or extension work in support of their academic growth.
Transportation

Required Forms
Please complete the important back-to-school forms by the first day of school. Log into the Family Portal to complete the forms online!
Technology and Other Reminders
- Cell phones, smart watches, and other devices with internet, messaging, or AI capabilities are NOT permitted at CSUS. Phones and watches brought to school will be collected at the start of the school day and returned before dismissal.
To keep our classrooms clean, we are limiting snacks and drinks (water only please) in upstairs classrooms.
- Scholars are welcome to bring their own sports equipment to use at recess as long as they are used responsibly. Sports equipment (basketballs, volleyballs, etc) are stored in the Main Office when not in use.
- Please note that we do not have parking/storage available for electric scooters (regular scooters that can fold/fit into a locker or be locked on the outdoor bike rack are OK)
Chromebooks (Scholar Computers)
- All scholars will be assigned a Chromebook and charger. Scholars are responsible for taking their Chromebook home every day and bringing it back to carry with them throughout the school day.
- Scholars need a signed AUP (Acceptable Use Policy) agreement on file in order to receive their device. This form is part of the required forms available on the Family Portal.
- Home devices are not permitted.
- Scholars are responsible for charging their devices every evening.
- If a Chromebook becomes damaged, the school will communicate with families about the cost of repair.
New Staff
In addition to the new staff celebrated in our previous letter home, we are pleased to welcome Ms Sarah Bickel as our Library and Technology Specialist!
