Cambridge Street Upper School is Moving!
Posted on 10/02/2015
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I’m writing to update you on the relocation of Cambridge Street Upper School (CSUS).
The move will take place in phases, with scholars reporting to our temporary location,
158 Spring Street, on February 11, 2016.

As you can see on the timeline below, crates of materials will be moved over the weekend of February 5-7. Then after the physical move, there will be a three-day transition period when scholars will remain in place at our current building while teachers begin setting up their new classrooms. Teachers will rotate back and forth between the two buildings in order to maintain a teaching schedule at CSUS. During time blocks when teachers are working on classroom set-up, scholars will participate in classes with classroom teachers, specialists (art, music, PE, etc.) and engage in special activities. Sufficient teaching materials will remain behind for teachers and scholars to use during the transition week.

The details of the transition week are being developed collaboratively with the staff. Please watch for further information from the transportation department and any after-school programs currently serving your family. In addition, look for more information in the upcoming weeks on how families can assist the school in making the new site welcoming to our scholars and staff.

Once scholars relocate after-school clubs and activities will continue to take place at our new location, and our school community will continue to benefit from a CitySprouts garden, located near the building’s playground, basketball court, tennis court, and large open practice field.

The building will have been vacated by Putnam Avenue Upper School in December, which provides time for CPS to make some additional adjustments to create space for our school community. Existing classrooms, art and music spaces, science labs, the library and cafeteria will be very similar to what scholars are already used to. One nice feature at this building is its new gymnasium, which was very recently renovated by the Boston Celtics Foundation. In addition, a newly-renovated O’Connell Branch Library will likely be open by the time our school relocates and is just 2 blocks away.

We are looking forward to the next step in our building plan, and our teachers and staff are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible. I hope this information is helpful, and as always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

Peace,

Manuel J. Fernandez
Head of School
