Good afternoon CSUS parents and caregivers,
It was an incredible week for our CSUS community! I want to start by congratulating our Girls' Basketball Team on their championship victory last week—what an outstanding season! We are also incredibly proud of the Boys' Basketball Team for their amazing effort, coming within one point of beating Putnam Ave in their final game of the season.
Beyond the court, our scholars are continuing their rigorous academic work across all grades. We also celebrate a fantastic achievement in our school culture: thanks to the dedicated efforts of our staff and scholars in upholding our community expectations, we did not have a single incident of damage or vandalism in our bathrooms last week. This positive momentum reflects the shared commitment we have to respecting our school spaces and maximizing time spent in the classroom.
Last week’s School Council meeting offered an engaging discussion on expectations and engagement at CSUS. We were fortunate to be joined by Ms. Clark and Ms. Joella, who shared concrete examples and context from their classrooms. We hope you will join us for next month’s School Council meeting on April 9th; the goal of that discussion will be to explore how CSUS can improve communication between school and home to better partner with families in this important work.
Finally, please note a few important dates and date changes -
- School is in session this Wednesday, April 18. This was originally scheduled to be a professional learning day for educators.
- No school this Friday, April 20, in recognition of Eid. Eid Mubarak to those in our community who are celebrating!
- We are expecting a date change for 8th grade graduation to accommodate snow days and the extension of the school year. I will update the 8th grade community on our new date as soon as it is confirmed. I appreciate folks patience and understanding.

In an effort to keep scholars, caregivers, and out of school time providers informed regarding weekly assignments, our teaching teams are sharing weekly homework calendars. These will be posted on our website for reference and easy access.

Cambridge Youth Health Survey (Grades 6-12) Coming Soon 
Cambridge Public Schools is once again partnering with the Cambridge Public Health Department (CPHD) to administer the Cambridge Youth Health Survey to students in grades 6-12 in late March.
Data collected is used to improve the district’s Wellness Education Program and student support services at CPS and in Cambridge to support the health and wellness of our young people.
Cambridge Youth Health Survey
- Topics Covered: Substance use, nutrition and physical activity, behaviors related to sexual activity and informed decision making, behaviors that contribute to unintentional injuries, and more.
- Participation/ Opt-out: The survey is voluntary, anonymous, and has no impact on academic grading. Individual data is not shared. Families can opt-out of the survey by contacting Jennifer Amigone, CPS Director of Assessment & Accountability, at jamigone@cpsd.us by Friday, March 13. Please provide the name of your student, their grade, and the school they attend.
- Review the Survey: If you would like to review the questions beforehand, please contact Anna Kaplan, CPHD’s Director of Epidemiology and Data Services at epidept@challiance.org.
Survey results will be shared in a comprehensive report. Review the notification sent to families on February 26 to learn more, or contact Anna Kaplan at epidept@challiance.org.
Food Resources for Eligible School-Aged Cambridge Residents
The below options are also available during school hours for ALL students:
- All students have access to FREE breakfast and lunch every school day. View the daily menus here. **CSUS cafeteria doors open at 8AM for scholars who would like breakfast** Breakfast options are available through arrival and until classes begin at 8:45AM.
- CPS Food Services is making meals more substantial by adding more protein options to daily menus.
- Students may visit salad bars more than once during meals for additional fruit and vegetables.
- Students are encouraged to use the “share tables” in the cafeterias. Students who have wrapped, unused food items can place them on the share table for others to take as needed.
- If you need additional support or want to visit a local free food market, find all options here.

- March 26: Caregiver Academy 5:30-7PM at CSUS: Session 5 topic is Executive Functioning and Supporting Learning at Home

- April 7-8: ELA MCAS testing for all grades
- April 20-24: April Vacation, NO SCHOOL
- May 28: Spring Chorus Concert and Art Show 5:30-7:30PM

Cambridge Street PCO Update
Hello families,
It's a rainy start to the week but hope springs eternal and perhaps with a bit of Irish luck sunnier weather is on its way (if a friendly neighborhood leprechaun wants to redirect some sunshine our way, I won’t argue).
Over the next few weeks, we’re shifting into fundraising mode. We’ve got a few programs that need a boost, and our community’s contributions are what keep the PCO running at full power. Think of it as fueling the tiny-but-mighty engine that makes all the good stuff happen.
April Break Gift Card Drive
The PCO is continuing to support families in our community who may be facing added financial strain, including those affected by recent changes to federal assistance programs.
Contributions will help us provide gift cards to families who need extra support during the break.
If you’re in a position to give, your donation—no matter the amount—will make a meaningful difference.

Drama Fest, Sunday May 3rd
For families whose child is taking part in this year's play, the PCO is committed to making this trip accessible to every scholar, at no cost to families. To make that possible, we rely on donations from our community.
The cost of the trip is (approximately) $37 per scholar. If you’re able to contribute the cost of your child’s trip—or even sponsor an additional scholar—it has a direct impact. Every donation, in any amount, helps us ensure all students can participate fully.
Your child will take part in the trip regardless of whether you donate.
