Good afternoon CSUS parents and caregivers,
Cobra Capstone week is here! This is one of the most special and meaningful times of year - the opportunity for our 8th graders to reflect upon and celebrate their learning and growth! I hope you are able to join us for a Capstone or another end of year celebration with our 6th and 7th graders; our 6th grade Caregiver Breakfast is this Friday from 9-10AM and our 7th grade Portfolio Breakfast is on June 17.
As the end of the year approaches and our celebratory events continue, I want to make sure our community is aware that our 8th grade graduation will take place on June 22 at 1PM. To accommodate graduation, please note that CSUS will dismiss at 12PM on Monday June 22. All guests, including Grade 6 and 7 scholars and alumni must have a ticket in order to attend the graduation ceremony. We are looking forward to celebrating the CSUS Class of 2028!

CSUS Homework Expectations and Weekly Homework Calendars
In an effort to keep scholars, caregivers, and out of school time providers informed regarding weekly assignments, our teaching teams are sharing weekly homework calendars. These will be posted on our website for reference and easy access.

CPS Summer Reading 6-8
Cambridge Public Schools encourage all incoming middle school students to read for at least 20 minutes each day or 2.5 hours a week during the summer and record their reading on a reading log. In total, students should read at least 5 books over the summer.
Students are expected to read one of the grade level books provided by CPS, plus four books of their choice. Students are encouraged to read both fiction and nonfiction, and to visit the Cambridge Public Library to help choose books.
In the fall, students will complete an assignment about their grade level book.
Be on the lookout for books coming home in the coming days!
Students will be receiving their provided grade level summer reading book on the following dates:
- Current 5th graders at CPort, FMA, and KO will receive books next week.
- Current 6th Grade will receive books during the Caregiver Breakfast this Friday, June 12th
- Current 7th Grade will receive books in ELA classes in the last week of school starting Monday, June 22nd.
- Current 8th Grade has CRLS summer reading info here and here. CRLS librarians and teachers visited 8th grade ELA classes on Monday, June 8th to provide an overview and answer any questions.
**If you know that your scholar will be absent or finishing the school year early, please let us know so we can make sure they receive their book as soon as possible!

Cambridge Street PCO Update
Hello families,
Anyone feeling the World Cup fever yet? Even as a non‑football/soccer fan, it’s hard not to get swept up in one of the only tournaments that truly brings together, quite literally, the world. The anthems, the music, the color, the chants — it’s an atmosphere like no other. And as a firm England supporter, I continue to live in hope that it might finally be coming home*.
That said, while we’re enjoying the global excitement, don’t forget we’ve still got a few more school events coming up — and with them, our last opportunities this year to raise funds through the generosity of our community.
*For anyone unfamiliar: 'coming home' is taken from “Three Lions” — written in 1996 by comedians David Baddiel and Frank Skinner with the band The Lightning Seeds, it has become the unofficial anthem of England fans.
Coffeehouse Cabaret - June 16th from 5:30PM
Come along and celebrate what our performance community wants to show off, from acting, singing, dancing, and more! The PCO will run a bake sale so please sign up if you're able to provide baked goods.
Field Trips Permissions and Donations
We know there’s a lot happening this time of year, and it’s easy to miss things on permission forms. A few years ago, the PCO made the decision to cover the full cost of field trips so that every student can participate, regardless of a family’s financial situation. It’s one of the ways we try to keep things equitable and simple for everyone.
That said, our fundraising only stretches so far. To keep this commitment going, we rely on donations from families who are in a position to give. If you’re able to contribute toward the cost of your child’s trip — or even help cover another scholar — it truly makes a difference and helps us continue offering these opportunities to all students - links below.

Our wider community has shown up in a big way, and we now have a fantastic list of items ready for bidding. Every dollar raised goes right back into supporting our students and families — from end‑of‑year field trips to team t‑shirts to teacher appreciation lunches.
Take a look, place a bid, and help us keep these traditions strong.
Book Swap - June 12th, 17th & 22nd
Together with the Literacy Team and Ms. Bickel, our school librarian, we’ll be hosting a Book Swap. Please encourage your child to drop off a book this week — or simply bring one along on the day to make a swap. There will be plenty of great choices, and it’s a perfect chance to get a head start on summer reading!

CSUS PCO Monthly Meeting
Thank you to everyone who was with us on Monday. Saying goodbye to our 8th‑grade families while welcoming new board members made for a bittersweet evening. I’ll keep the mushy thanks for the final TTH!
