Message from Manuel J. Fernandez & Christen Sohn: October 18, 2020

Good evening CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

We hope you and your scholar enjoyed the past week and weekend, and that everyone is settling into a learning routine. As always, there are lots of exciting things happening at Cambridge Street!

Return to in-person learning
CSUS welcomed 11 scholars in our sub-separate programs back to 840 Cambridge Street last week; it was wonderful to see some smiling faces back in the building after so many months apart. Kudos to the staff who prepared classrooms and curriculum to support scholars safely for in-person learning!

Upcoming October Listening Conferences
Your scholar’s Cobra Den Advisor will be in touch with you this week to schedule our second Listening Conference for the school year. This year Listening Conferences hold the critical importance of sharing important insights about your child’s well being while learning remotely, what is going well so far this year, and what they and you need from CSUS in order to make remote learning a success. Current guidelines and mandates require these meetings to happen virtually; families will have the option of joining an online meeting through Zoom or talking on the phone at a time that is convenient for you. We also have interpreters in many languages that are ready and able to assist us. We are eager to connect with all CSUS families and caregivers before the end of October.

Picking up school materials
It was wonderful to see so many scholars and caregivers at materials pickup earlier this month. If you or your scholar has not yet come to 840 Cambridge Street to pick up materials, please plan to do so this coming week.

Use this link to sign up for a pick up time between 10:00 am - 2:30 pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday. Reserve one pick up time per scholar; families with scholars in multiple grades at CSUS should sign up for multiple pick up times. At the time selected, go to Cambridge Street Upper School at 840 Cambridge Street to pick up your child's school supplies. Pick up points will be located at the front of the building. The City of Cambridge mandates that masks be worn and everyone must maintain 6ft of distance while waiting.

Caregivers may pick up materials for their scholars, or scholars may pick up materials independently as long as they have caregiver permission. If permitted by a parent or guardian/caregiver, scholars may use Flex Time to pick up materials from CSUS. Scholars should not miss live classes.

Any families having difficulty using the sign up link can communicate their pick up time preferences to their scholar’s Cobra Den advisor or to Ms. Robinson.

Flex Time work in Specials Classes
We wanted to remind scholars and families that this year during remote learning, our Specials classes (Art, Music, Theatre Arts, and Health) meet with each grade for a quarter of the year, which is about 8 weeks. This means scholars are already approaching the halfway point in their Specials curriculum for this quarter. Please bear in mind that, because each Specials class meets for such a brief duration during the year, these classes may assign additional Flex Time work to enable scholars to experience more of the curriculum. Reach out to Assistant Principal Christen Sohn with any questions.

Finally, do not forget to review this week’s Flexible Work Time assignment grid to see what your scholar will be working on this week!

Stay safe and well, and have a great weekend.

Peace,
Manuel and Christen
