Message from Christen Sohn: March 9, 2023

Dear Morning CSUS Parents and Caregivers,

It’s an exciting week at CSUS. See below for updates regarding last week's basketball championship, Winter i-Ready scores, Scholar Led Conferences, scholar lunch drop-offs and other important dates and events this month.

Congratulations to the CSUS Basketball Program!
Cambridge Street is home to the 2023 Cambridge Basketball Champions - both boys and girls teams won last week versus Amigos and Putnam Avenue. Congratulations to our players and coaches!

i-Ready Update
Reports detailing your scholars’ iReady winter performance were mailed home this week. We are excited to share your scholar’s progress with you! Our scholars made outstanding growth from fall to winter. Expected progress toward typical growth mid-year is 50%; CSUS scholars exceeded this target in both ELA and Math. In Reading our CSUS scholar growth was among the highest in the district at 137%.

A reminder that when scholars complete the i-Ready screener, educators use i-Ready scholar data to inform instruction. This measure in conjunction with classroom observations, subject area assessments, and other information help educators to know how to build curriculum and lessons that build upon scholar strengths and support their areas of need. It is one of many sources of information that teachers use to plan for how to support all scholars in their learning. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you read the report:

If you have questions or would like to know more, please reach out to our Math Instructional Coach Marisa Berenbaum at [email protected] or our Literacy Coach Connie Henderson at [email protected].

Scholar Led Conferences
Scholar Led Conferences are underway at CSUS. Scholar Led Conferences are a mid-year opportunity for scholars to showcase their schoolwork and discuss progress on their educational goals with you.

At a Scholar-Led conference, you can expect your child to share their reflection on how the year is going, what SCHOLAR (social justice, curiosity, honor, originality, leadership, academic excellence, and resilience) attributes they are striving for, as well as a CER (claim, evidence, reasoning) written reflection on their academic growth and and goals.

Your child’s homeroom advisor will be in touch, if they have not already, to schedule your child’s scholar led conference.

A reminder about scholar lunches
CPS Food Services offers a variety of options for scholar lunches daily. The monthly lunch menu can be found online here. We ask that scholars and families refrain from ordering food to be delivered to scholars via Doordash and other delivery services as it is disruptive to the school day.
