Message from Manuel J. Fernandez: March 16, 2020

Good afternoon parents and caregivers,

Our priority last Friday morning was to address scholars and give them the information they need to feel calm and prepared for our two weeks away from 840 Cambridge Street. As of that afternoon our teachers had already uploaded assignment expectations, and organized structures for scholars to be in regular communication while we are apart.

We shared the attached slides to walk scholars through the logistics of attending school remotely, detailing both how and when to access assignments, how to organize their day, and who to reach out to if they are feeling confused or stressed. Our gathering ended with a sing along of “We’re all in this together” - because we are!

Scholars who attended school on Friday received Chromebook computers so that they would be able to access virtual classrooms and assignments. If your scholar was not present Friday, Mr. Searcy will be distributing Chromebooks at CSUS on Monday, 3/16 from 10AM - 3PM. If your scholar is in need of their Chromebook during this extended school closure. Please call the school at 617.349.3050 or email Family Liaison Will Adams at [email protected] to organize a time for pick up.

Comcast Internet Essentials is offering free 60 days of Wifi to communities affected by disruption due to school closures. Families without access to the internet can get more information by clicking here. All families receiving a CPS Chromebook must review the attached PDF regarding using Chromebooks at home. If you or your scholar need technical support, please email [email protected] with the subject “Student Chromebook” and include as much detailed information as possible, including a phone number for contact.

Watch your email and the Remind app for regular updates from CSUS. Information detailing our online learning expectations are available here, with more detailed information regarding assignments and teacher feedback available directly on teachers’ Google Classroom sites. You can follow the attached schedule while your scholar works from home.

If you or your scholar needs emotional support or access to one of our counselors, they can be reached at the following numbers:

  • Ms. Peirre Paul: 617.433.8508
  • Ms. Udovicki: 617.433.88409
  • Ms. Kronhaus: 617.843.5260

Our Family Liaison, Will Adams, can be reached via email. Assistant Principal Christen Sohn can be reached via email.

With regard to the physical health of scholars and families, and how to recognize symptoms of COVID-19 and best to prevent the spread of germs please see the resources available on the Cambridge Street as well as CPS websites. If you are unable to access any of the links in this document, PDFs are also available on the web.

In these unprecedented times, it is hard to put into words how deeply proud we are of our staff, scholars, and community for their hard work, flexibility, and the deep level of care we are showing for one another. As we told the scholars, we are still here for you, even if we are not present at 840 Cambridge Street. Teachers, administrators, and staff are available via email; an adult’s first initial and last name @cpsd.us will put you in email contact with whoever you need.

We’re all in this together.

Peace,

Manuel and Christen
