Parents, Caregivers and TEAM CSUS,

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I want to share the following, hopefully, thoughtful reflections.

Twenty years after my first principalship, I am thankful to have learned so much from the voices of young people and have it inform my practice every day!

I am proud of the innovation and passion that so many TEAM CSUS members exemplify every day in their instructional routines with our scholars and in their engagement with our families!

I am so appreciative to the many parents and caregivers that work behind the scenes to personify the mission of CSUS through their volunteer activities and their compassionate activism on behalf of scholars and families in need!

I feel very fortunate to lead a school in a district that shares my beliefs in equity and inclusion and because equity work is challenging and messy, when we falter and go off course, we recalibrate behind what’s best for all children!

I am not only mindful of those less fortunate but astutely aware of the contradictions inherent in our beliefs around Thanksgiving. So I will celebrate family and friends and remind all that we can do better.

Whatever you choose to do during the Thanksgiving break, I encourage you to take some time to be thankful for what you have, consider what you can do for others, and continue to work with us to ensure that CSUS is a place where all children can learn, develop, and flourish!

Peace,

Manuel J. Fernandez
