Good afternoon CSUS families and caregivers,

Reports detailing your scholars’ i-Ready and MCAS scores were mailed home earlier this month. When CSUS scholars complete the i-Ready screener, educators use i-Ready scholar data to inform instruction. This measure in conjunction with classroom observations, subject area assessments, and other information help educators to know how to build curriculum and lessons that build upon scholar strengths and support their areas of need. Your scholar’s i-Ready information is shared with you not as a judgment on your child and their ability, but as a starting point. When the iReady screener is administered again in February, we will be able to see how each individual scholar has grown from the fall. That measure is something we look forward to seeing. In addition, it is just one source of information that teachers use to plan for how to support all scholars in their learning and growth in class. Here are a few things to keep in mind as you read the report:

  • Scholars “At Grade Level” and/or “Approaching Grade Level” are right where they should be.
  • We (and the screener developers!) expect scholars to be at grade level by the end of the year, not the beginning of the year.
  • Scholars who have “Needs Improvement” in a given domain have been identified by our teachers and reading and math specialists.
  • We are already supporting those scholars in small groups and in targeted in-class instruction.
  • Any scholar above grade level has access to extension materials that allow them to dig more deeply into the grade level standards.
  • We have always expected teachers to have rigorous and engaging curriculum and projects that take into account a wide range of skill levels.

If you have questions or would like to know more, please reach out to our Math Instructional Coach Marisa Berenbaum at [email protected] or our Literacy Coach Roxanne Archibald at [email protected].
Thank you for your patience as we all find ways to use this tool to support all our learners in growing!

Go Cobras!
