Message from Manuel J. Fernandez: Lockdown Drill

Message from Manuel J. Fernandez: Lockdown Drill
Posted on 12/03/2015
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Given the persistent threats to the schools over the past few weeks, today we conducted a lockdown drill with all CSUS scholars and staff. Typically, we notify families in advance of a drill but we felt it was imperative that we conduct one today without prior notice.

The purpose of a lock down drill is to prepare scholars and staff to be protected if an intruder enters the school. While this is a highly unlikely event, we need to practice lock down drills, just as we practice fire drills, knowing that a fire is also an unlikely event. All advisories conducted a 15 minute preparation session to prepare scholars for the drill.

Our first lock down drill was a success. Scholars and staff were safely secured out of sight of windows and doors. All doors were locked and all classroom lights were off.  Everyone took the drill very seriously. As we checked every classroom there was no evidence of talking or any noise coming from any classrooms. The drill lasted approximately 15 minutes which included a 5 minute post-drill session to help minimize any anxiety after the drill.

Thank you to families that expressed interest in our preparedness. I want to assure you that TEAM CSUS will continue to do all that it can to ensure the safety of our scholars and staff and the security of our building.  I hope that this information gives you some measure of comfort.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

Peace,

Manuel J. Fernandez
