“Nature forms the basis of art, and art is based on drawing.”
-Leonardo da Vinci

This is a selection of 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade CSUS students’ drawings from this fall semester.

ArtThe 6th grade art project “Me in 10 Years” focused on drawing realistic faces and figures by using comparative measurements and accurate proportions. After sketching portraits and practicing gestural figure drawings with classmates taking turns drawing each other, students then used their imagination to draw themselves 10 years from now.

The 7th grade art project “Still Lifes” focused on drawing accurately from observation and creating the illusion of depth with the use of chiaroscuro (light & dark). Students selected their own objects to set up for their still lifes. The objects they used are symbols for their personal interests.

The 8th Grade art project “Places of Personal Acceptance” focused on drawing in perspective. One-Point & Two-Point perspective techniques were practiced first, then students chose a place that they feel especially comfortable and welcomed to draw with one of the techniques. Students used reference images and/or memory. Some students chose to draw a future place of acceptance and used imagination.

These drawings exhibit great growth in learning methods, materials & techniques of visual art and personal expression of CSUS students’ point of view. I hope you enjoy their art as much as I have enjoyed teaching these students.
