CSUS Staff Attend Redefining Ready: Connecting Adolescent Development to College Readiness Workshop
On Thursday March 13, Principal Fernandez, Ms. Ahern, Ms. DeNufrio, Ms.
Gordon, Ms. Johnson, and Ms. Preval attended a professional development
workshop entitled Redefining Ready: Connecting Adolescent Development to College Readiness
workshop. The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Suzanne Bouffard and
explored how adolescent development influences college preparation and
planning and how educators can use that knowledge to support all young
people wherever they are on the path to college. It focused on building
college-going identity and other developmental skills needed for college
and career success. “Dr. Suzanne Bouffard, a researcher and writer at
the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Dr. Mandy Savitz-Romer,
the director of the Prevention Science and Practice Program and senior
lecturer on education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, are
co-authors of Ready, Willing and Able: A Developmental Approach to College Access and Success.”
This
workshop was hosted by Harvard University, in an effort to deepen the
work of the Project Teach program. Project Teach has been bringing 7th
graders in Cambridge Public Schools to Harvard for over 25 years with a
goal of deepening the dialogue around “college-going identity” which we
will talk about tonight.
